So much of the learning value from books is from helping children make connections and from encouraging them to experiment with words and actions. Not an adventure in every particular, but Toad’s wild ride and prison break are amazing, as is the battle to reclaim Toad Hall from the weasels, stoats, and ferrets who’ve invaded from the Wild Wood. 1909.
