Winterfeld wrote a sequel called Caius geht ein Licht auf (1969) (translated as The Mystery of the Roman Ransom), but it is nowhere as good. Weird! #H24--Hucka Pucka: Man, I JUST saw this in a local thrift store! She fears she will be late home and miss her tea, but eventually everything is OK, of course. Another summary: "The Godolphins are an important family in Godolphinville, or so Allison has always been told. I went that route a few years ago when I was searching for "Marco Comes Late" and spent way too much money on the wrong book.

There is only one movie adaptation and that was released in 1991. It's about four young girls, Bettie, Jeanie, Mabel and Marjory, who earn the right to use a small cottage for the summer by digging dandelions from the lawn. The book is listed as being SOLVED as Adventures of Chatterer, the red squirrel by Thornton W. A little girl who lived in the same house in the 1870s, Alice, can peer into/haunt the future house and has become determined to make Lucy her playmate... forever. This poor dog’s first owner is killed, so he is adopted by another person, who is also killed, leaving the dog with “quite a complex.” Obviously this is where a dog therapist comes in.

Hicks' most important work from a mystery reader's point of view is Alvin's Secret Code (1963). Possibly "More Times and Places", but not sure. 1950's, pre-1960 for sure. When I went back many years later I could not find it again. Kathy, her sister Maureen, and her brother Danny go to stay at the seashore. I read this book prior ot 1990, probably around 1987-88. D9: Mystery of the Silent Friends by Robin Gottlieb (story about automated dolls, one sits at a writing desk and her message is a clue).

Small own characters and animals, good mystery, the reader enjoyed it. Anna leaves, taking the note to show her mother, and her last thoughts as the story ends is how she helped them get home, and how she stayed with folks who offered her two eggs for breakfast! [Thanks, I hope you can help find this short story (maybe 10-25 pages?). It was a juvenile novel - it wasn't a political statement about capitalism like the original comic strips.

They fix up the equipment and find dazzling new acts, but what the show needs most is an acrobat. Without knowing it, he effectively becomes a part of the story, which takes place in the land of Fantastica. Respectable illustrations add just the right amount of whimsy and fun while the text will surely provide entertainment and education to a wide range of new readers. While I read it in the early 90's it looked to be from an older press (late 60's/early 70's). Both of the stories mentioned are in this book, the one with the child lying on the floor looking under the bed where the couple, a pair of alien observers, have returned home is "Something bright" and the one where only human flesh will nourish the alien is "Food to all flesh".

Matthias gets more adventure than he asked for when an evil rat leads a scourge of vermin against Redwall. J is for jack-o-lantern on Halloween night. Mom doesn't think it was a Golden Book and that it might have been smaller than a Golden Book. Pease deals with racism in his usual manner, head-on, when Renny has to take instruction from a Filipino cook: At first young Renny shows disdain for the "brown-skinned messman", certain that he could not amount to much. The last line of the book was "And she turned her face towards it."

I believe the title is "Mrs. _____'s Garden" and it is the story of a hedgehog named Hedgie who lives in a lady's garden. I read it to my daughter back in the 70's. The director said this quote didn't sound like his phraseology. Dad will be tremendously excited. i read this book in the 70's as a young girl. It was not the Tucker family series that I see described. Scholastic. friendship between real mouse and toy one; Caldecott honor book; ALA Notable Book; NY Times Outstanding Book of the Year A book my mother recalls reading to her kids either in the 60's or 70's.
