A teacher loses his job, applies everywhere, gets a gig somewhere in the mediterranean sea, on an island. eventually meets and bonds with a rich old man who basically owns the island and is actually responsible for bringing him there. he actually sets up this teacher from day one, telling him he'll fall in love with one of his daughters one day and the guy is like, whatever...but does anyway. next things he know, the family up and leaves and he spends countless years searching for them. anyway, he finds them in europe somewhere and finds out only at the end the the whole thing was a huge scheme againsthim. i know this is vague but please help if you can!!! pretty please!!

The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency may be years in the future, but Precious, growing up in Botswana, already has her skill set in place as she tries to find out what happened to a family’s cow. Not sure about the twin brother bit, but everything else fits to the best of my memory. Could this be Flora Hood, The Pink Puppy? It made me think of all of the great TV detectives. Most of the book is very humorous, relating various situations the cat got into, but the ending (horribly sad) is about his death. She regularly takes walks along her “spy route” and writes down everything she hears and thinks about people in a notebook. It's one I remember fondly (but unfortunately not accurately) from childhood. It was my husband's favorite book when he was a boy. A lost race novel of sorts, as Dawn is from a forgotten valley with a group of Eohippus, Dawn horses." What I remember most clearly about him is that he smoked cigars, and would blow smoke rings in the shape of Q's (and probably other things, but that's what I remember). The knight had a squire with him when he went to the village, and when they stopped at night with the woman who went with them she takes off his helmet/mask to see his disfigured face.

Antonio Colacino, More Adventures of Susan & Spotty, 1969. Bright, colorful, usually a scene that you'd like to walk right in. That is, if you can go.� The book was about the size of a �Tom Swift� book of that era but had a bluish grey cover and a picture of a sun or moon and stars. Since you had to study the pictures it took forever to finish. I understand the hardcover, published by Lyle Stuart, appeared in 1961, and I'd love to get it--our paperback is pretty sad!

He eventually gets back home after some interaction with this tribe. I already found it at my library and have started reading it. Sobol does not lay on "atmosphere" or local facts with a trowel, so that the reader, who has paid good money for a "regional book", knows that he is getting his money's worth and "learning about Florida". Perfect for: Kids who like science fiction and fantasy. This is a double-width illustration on the inside of the front cover (endpaper) extending on to the first right-hand page (flyleaf).
